Cookies, Costumes, and Connection: Buccaneers Bring Books to Life at Storybook Village
Shoutout to Louisa Swank and the Benjamin School Buccaneers Chapter of STUDENTS Speak Up for Kids
The Benjamin School Buccaneers turned the pages of two beloved children’s books into a fun-filled experience for over 200 young readers at this year’s Storybook Village. With themed activities inspired by If You Give a Mouse a Cookie and Fancy Nancy, Louisa Swank and her team created a lively, welcoming space where kids could interact with their favorite characters in new and exciting ways.
Nine student volunteers helped run the in-person table, engaging with children and families through story-centered crafts, costume play, and creative conversation. The team worked together to spark imagination, joy, and a love for reading in every child who visited their booth.
Why This Matters
Storybook Village gives children the opportunity to connect with stories in a real-world setting. For foster youth and others in attendance, experiences like this offer more than fun, they create memories of inclusion, encouragement, and care.
Louisa and her team showed that by stepping into the world of a story, you can help children feel seen, valued, and inspired to dream big.
