STUDENTS Speak Up for Kids Volunteers Bring Creativity and Literacy to Storybook Village 2026

At the 2026 Storybook Village event, student volunteer Jessica Sleek participated in community outreach and engagement activities through STUDENTS Speak Up for Kids.

Storybook Village brought books to life through:

  • Interactive booths

  • Story time experiences

  • Creative activities for children and families

  • Free books and goodies distributed to attendees

During the event, Jessica helped table for the organization and made friendship bracelets with children attending the event, helping create a welcoming and engaging environment.

The event was made possible through partnerships with the Association of Early Learning Coalitions and additional community organizations dedicated to literacy and youth development.

Why It Matters

Events like Storybook Village do more than encourage reading—they create opportunities for connection, creativity, and positive childhood experiences.

For children and families, especially those facing challenges or instability, community events centered around literacy and engagement can provide:

  • Encouragement and confidence

  • Positive social interaction

  • Access to books and educational resources

  • A sense of belonging and support

Student volunteers also gained valuable leadership and communication skills while learning the importance of showing up for their community through meaningful service.
