Importance of Music for Foster Kids

Most of us remember learning little songs as children and the fun we had clapping hands and singing along. For foster children, learning songs and music is not the norm. Most of these children spend their childhoods moving from home to home, searching for a sense of belonging, stability, and normalcy. Their lives are marked by uncertainty and lack of opportunity.

The Speak Up for Kids Music Buddies program aims to change that. The music program was inspired and conceived by students Jocelyn and Anden. The program intends to provide foster children with music lessons, an opportunity most would not otherwise have. Did you know that music boosts confidence, teaches patience, and helps kids connect to other people? The Music Buddies program seeks to heal and change lives through the common ground of music.

Statistics show that enrichment activities for foster children, such as music and literacy, spark all areas of school readiness. Music skills boost motor skills and language acquisition, improve school readiness, and aid in social-emotional intelligence. Studies also show that music has the power to heal and change lives in positive ways. As they grow older, kids' love of music will strengthen their memory capability.

Our Guardian ad Litems work tirelessly to create a community for foster kids to try new things. We want to give 100% of Palm Beach County foster kids the opportunity to connect and express themselves through music with the support of Kids Music Buddies. Through the power of musical expression, Kids Music Buddies strives to help them break the cycle of abuse and neglect to move toward a more normal life.

The Guardian ad Litems are crucial to helping these foster kids grow and change. You can be part of this change, too. Your donation of any amount to Speak Up for Kids Music Buddies will provide each of these children with the life-changing power of music and create a sense of normalcy in their lives.
