Sweet Slime and Storytime Fun: Atlantic Eagles Spark Smiles with Pete the Cat

Shoutout to Cecilia Welter and the Atlantic Eagles Chapter of STUDENTS Speak Up for Kids

At this year’s Storybook Village, the Atlantic Eagles brought energy, laughter, and a whole lot of slime to the event through their creative table, Pete the Cat Screams for Ice Cream. Led by Cecilia Welter, the team set up a hands-on slime-making activity inspired by the colorful and fun-loving character Pete the Cat, drawing in more than 200 children throughout the day.

Seven student volunteers worked together to run the table, making the experience interactive and exciting for every child who stopped by. With bright colors, cool textures, and plenty of smiles, the project turned reading into a sensory adventure.

Why This Matters

Events like Storybook Village do more than just promote reading, they create joyful, inclusive spaces for children to explore stories and connect with their community. For foster youth and others in attendance, fun activities like slime-making can become cherished moments that build confidence and belonging.

By pairing creativity with a beloved book character, Cecilia and the Atlantic Eagles reminded children that reading can be fun, expressive, and full of surprises.

Get Involved

From storytelling tables to slime-making fun, there are countless ways to get involved and make a difference. Volunteering with STUDENTS Speak Up for Kids is a chance to bring happiness, learning, and connection to children who need it most.
