Olympic Heights High School STUDENTS Create 60 Snowflake Decorations to Brighten Holidays for Foster Youth

Why It Matters

For youth in foster care, the holidays can sometimes feel isolating or uncertain. Small, personalized gestures can help create a sense of belonging and recognition.

By creating 60 personalized snowflake decorations, students helped foster youth feel seen, valued, and included—while also building a strong culture of service and empathy within their chapter.
Reese Woods reflected that, although the project may seem small, it was powerful to see how dedicated students were to making a difference. One of the most meaningful moments came after the meeting, when several members stayed behind to finish coloring extra snowflakes, demonstrating genuine care and commitment to helping others.

Students also noted how inspiring it was to see their peers put effort and creativity into each decoration, reinforcing the importance of thoughtful service.

How to Get Involved

  • Join or start a STUDENTS Speak Up for Kids chapter at your school

  • Organize creative projects like cards, decorations, or care kits

  • Participate in high school volunteer opportunities that focus on encouragement and support

  • Inspire others to get involved in community service

Not every impactful project has to be big, sometimes the smallest gestures leave the greatest impression.
