Palm Beach Central High School STUDENTS Support Older Foster Youth with “Stockings of Hope” Project

Why It Matters

While many donation drives focus on younger children, teens in foster care are frequently overlooked—especially those nearing adulthood and aging out of the system.

This project directly addressed that gap.

By creating 7 “Stockings of Hope” for older foster youth, students helped bring attention to an often-overlooked population while providing meaningful holiday support and encouragement.

Ava Medina shared that this experience opened her eyes to how difficult it can be to find donations geared toward teenagers, highlighting why they are so often left out. One of the most impactful moments came when the stockings were fully assembled, making the effort feel real and tangible.

Students also reflected on how important it is to ensure that all youth, regardless of age, feel supported and remembered during the holidays.

How to Get Involved

Want to make a difference through high school volunteer opportunities or virtual community service?
Here are ways to help foster kids:

  • Join or start a STUDENTS Speak Up for Kids chapter at your school

  • Organize projects that focus on underserved groups, like teens in foster care

  • Create donation drives, care kits, or awareness campaigns

  • Share your impact to inspire other schools and communities

Not every impact is measured in large numbers—sometimes it’s about reaching the right people in the right way.

Take action today. Even one project can make a lasting difference in someone’s life.
