Framed in Blue: Lions Raise Their Voices for Child Abuse Prevention
Shoutout to Reese Woods and the Olympic Heights Lions Chapter of STUDENTS Speak Up for Kids
During Child Abuse Prevention Month, the Olympic Heights Lions led a powerful initiative to educate and inspire their school community. Through their Pinwheels and Picture Frames project, they combined creativity and compassion to shine a light on an issue that impacts millions and to encourage others to join them in speaking up.
Thirteen students participated in this awareness campaign, which reached 70 students and faculty members. Chapter leaders spent 6 hours creating handmade picture frames and preparing presentations, while 10 student members contributed a total of 87 hours. Whether it was helping peers learn about the realities of child abuse or simply encouraging others to take a photo in support, each moment made an impact.
“This project really opened my eyes to how important awareness is,” said Reese Woods. “I hadn’t fully realized how widespread child abuse is across different communities and situations until we started sharing information and engaging with others. The willingness of people to participate, even by simply taking a photo to show their support, was incredibly moving.”
Why This Matters
Advocacy begins with awareness, and this project proved that students are more than capable of leading change. Pinwheels, often used as a national symbol for child abuse prevention, lined the school grounds. Picture frames showcased individuals who stood in solidarity, including students from all walks of campus life and influential school administrators.
“I felt that this project had really resonated with the school when I looked through the pictures members submitted. They included all sorts of students, not just their friends, along with administrators who play an important role in our community,” said Reese.
Get Involved
“This club is an amazing opportunity to help children in the foster care system feel loved and cared for despite all the hardship,” Reese said. “It is a chance for you to make a true difference in Palm Beach County.”
From art to action, Pinwheels and Picture Frames served as a visual reminder that the fight to end child abuse starts with awareness and grows stronger with every student who chooses to speak up.
