Real Voices, Real Impact: Jupiter Warriors Tackle Foster Care Myths
Shoutout to Danielle Day and Maryam Alrekabi of the Jupiter High Warriors Chapter of STUDENTS Speak Up for Kids
For Child Abuse Prevention Month, Danielle Day and Maryam Alrekabi led an inspiring effort to raise awareness at Jupiter High School by combining creativity, storytelling, and student engagement. Their mission: to educate peers, break down common misconceptions about foster care, and inspire more students to get involved.
Danielle created a compelling awareness video that was shared on social media, reaching approximately 300 viewers. Her work amplified key messages about the importance of supporting foster youth and opened the door to larger community conversations. Meanwhile, Maryam led an in-school campaign featuring a Foster Care Mythbuster Board and a “Blue Day” initiative to promote visibility and solidarity. Their Canva post appeared on the school news, reaching a campus of roughly 3,000 students. The Mythbuster Board drew attention too, with 11 students interacting through a linked Google Form and 20 more engaging with the poster itself.
“This inspired me to want to take more action at JHS next year through SSUFK and get more kids at our school involved,” said Danielle. “It’s important for others to support foster youth because the more people involved, the bigger difference we can make.”
Why This Matters
Awareness starts with education, and this project made a meaningful impact by encouraging students to think differently about foster care and child abuse prevention. One of the most rewarding outcomes was seeing new students become interested in the mission of STUDENTS Speak Up for Kids.
“The real impact of increased awareness this project gave to the students at JHS was most meaningful,” said Maryam. “When people who weren’t involved in SSUFK started to participate because of our CAP Month project, that’s when I knew we had made a difference.”
Get Involved
“It is immensely worth it because of the real difference people can make,” Danielle shared.
Whether through video, visuals, or one-on-one conversations, Danielle and Maryam proved that student voices have the power to change minds—and inspire action.
