Spanish River High School STUDENTS Lead Textured Hair Care Event Supporting Foster Youth
Why It Matters
Hair care, especially textured hair care, is often an overlooked but essential need for many children in foster care. Without proper knowledge or resources, youth may struggle with self-care, confidence, and identity.
This project directly addressed that gap.
By providing $300 in hair care resources, supporting 9 foster youth, and educating families and the community, this project empowered children with tools for self-care while raising awareness about an often-overlooked need in foster care.
Evangeline Hoff shared that seeing the joy on the children’s faces was one of the most eye-opening parts of the experience. A particularly meaningful moment came when a child finished having her hair done and smiled—highlighting how something simple can have a powerful emotional impact.
This initiative also emphasized long-term importance, helping foster youth maintain self-care skills even after aging out of the system.
